Italian Beaches - Threatened

Beaches attract millions of tourists in Italy are suffering from erosion. It was caused by severe storms, rising sea levels and coastal buildings, replacing the sand on the concrete.

Experts claim that almost 1120 kilometers of coastline in Italy are on the verge of extinction. One of the most affected areas is Capocotta - a popular beach near Rome.

Local residents fear that provokes the strongest storm erosion may contribute to the fact that the beach will disappear in two years. The Italian authorities have decided to distribute the sand on the beaches, located as Capocotta, on the verge of extinction, reports Daily Mail. To fill with sand affected areas by 400 kilometers of coastline, you will need 26 million euros.

To restore the beach of Ostia (Ostia), is also rapidly disappearing, local authorities raised the sand from the seabed. Four truckloads of sand were also sent to the beach L'Ultima Spiaggia in Tuscany, almost destroyed by strong storms in early 2011.
